Bank statement PDF to Xero

When a bank feed is not available, Xero takes a statement as a file. Most banks give you a PDF; MyFulus turns it into a CSV with one row per transaction, checked against the balances the statement prints.

Never saved: your file is read in memory, not written to disk or a database, and the converted lines are deleted after 60 minutes — or as soon as you press Delete.

What the Xero file contains

Five columns: Date, Amount, Payee, Description, Reference. Amount is one signed number, positive for money in and negative for money out. Description is the bank's own text for the line; Payee and Reference are left empty for you to fill or ignore.

Importing it into Xero

  1. Convert your statement above and press Xero to download the CSV.
  2. In Xero, open the bank account the statement belongs to and choose to import a statement.
  3. Select the file, match each column to Xero's field, and confirm the date format you chose here.

How the conversion is checked

Most statements print a running balance beside each line, an opening and a closing balance, or totals for the period. Every converted line has to agree with them exactly. If they agree, you see that it was checked; if they do not, you see which lines to compare with your statement, on screen and in the Excel file. If a statement prints none of them, you are told it could not be checked. See an example.

Quick answers

Should I use Payee or Description?

The file puts the bank's text under Description and leaves Payee empty, so nothing is invented. Fill Payee in Xero if your bank rules match on it.

Will the dates come out right?

Choose the date order your Xero organisation uses before you download (DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD), and confirm the same order when Xero asks.

Is anything kept after I download the file?

No. The statement is read in memory and never saved, and the converted lines are deleted after 60 minutes, or as soon as you press Delete.
